Mignon Restaurant

It was indeed a delight to be able to visit a restaurant which has been a favourite for many years.

It is the Mignon Restaurant which is located very near to the archway on 406 Thappraya Road, opposite the Jomtien Complex.   For nearly 5 years this fine restaurant has constantly served top quality International and Thai cuisine at extremely fair prices, all courtesy of Thai Executive Chef Satien Veruwanarak.   In fact, these days, Mignon has gained a much deserved reputation and become so popular with local residents and tourists that it is often the case having to book well in advance to get a table.   The nicely decorated restaurant itself is small, homely and very comfortable. And the good news is that the Thai owners have thankfully opened a section upstairs with additional seating to double the capacity.

The Ala Carte Menu is small but together with a Set 3 Course Menu at 199 baht and the Special Weekly Menu offers a very good assortment of delightful recipes to choose from.  For instance, on the Special Menu this week one could have starters such as Shrimp Cocktail at 150 baht or 395 baht for genuine French Foie Gras (Goose Liver) with Cognac Dressing.  For the main course a cut of Thai Premium Grade Striploin of Beef at 235 baht or Grilled/Pan Fried Trout for 350 baht.

The Ala Carte Menu includes a fine range of Appetisers from 120 baht for Fried Chicken Wings to 195 baht for Smoked Salmon. Freshly made Salads are available such as Caesar Salad or homemade Soups including a very good Onion Soup, both at 130 baht.  For main courses one can choose from meats, such as Duck Breast in Pepper Sauce (295 baht) or fish including Pan Fried Sea Bass at 250 baht.  They also do a fine selection of authentic Thai cuisine at around 100 baht.  Mignon however, prides itself on its Steaks and they do an excellent selection of quality USA (895 baht for 8 ounces), Australian (675 baht for 12 ounces) and New Zealand (345 baht for 8 ounces) prime cuts of Beef Steaks and top quality New Zealand Lamb Chops at 475 baht.

And so to the food!  After sampling great tasting Strawberry Margarita and Singapore Sling Cocktails (110 baht), we started with a deliciously tender Foie Gras Salad (335 baht) and very nice Baked Scallops (195 baht) with a wonderful Spinach and Roasted Cheese topping.

From the Grill we chose two of Mignon’s house specialties, mouth melting Roast Beef served with Potato Gratin and Vegetables (325 baht) and Fillet Mignon (315 baht), a choice cut of Tenderloin Steak and Bacon Wrap with Fries and Salad. Delicious!    From the Dessert cart we honed in on a lovely Crepe Suzette with Vanilla Ice Cream and Almonds (130 baht) and a Chocolate lover’s delight, a dreamy slice of homemade Chocolate Cake served with Vanilla Ice Cream for 100 baht that will really tantalize your taste buds.

T hey have a fine selection of international wines from 950 baht for a decent French Red to 1,680 baht for an Italian Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Grave Friuli’.  House wines are 850 baht a bottle and very acceptable French red and white is served at 140 baht a glass.   So, make a date and go and discover the delightful Mignon Restaurant in Jomtien. Well worth a visit!
