In the early hours of 4th August, Dongtan police officers and Sawang Boriboon medics were called out to the scene of a fatal road accident in the Na-Jomtien area of Sukhumvit Road. The two vehicles in the accident were a motorcycle and a Chevrolet; both were badly damaged. Nearby was the body of the bike rider, 33 year old Somchai Saeheng who had died instantly from the impact. Inside the overturned Chevrolet the team found two unconscious people, who later were identified as Mr. Omar Mirzer (28) and Ms Inina Ivanova, (26), both from Russia. They were quickly cut out as oil was leaking around the vehicle. They were given immediate first aid and rushed to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for emergency treatment. According to eye witnesses, the Russians were travelling far too fast along the road when it came across the bike in the same lane. The driver hit the rear of the bike and lost control and overturned and smashed into a nearby electric post. A full inquest into the incident will take place when the Russians are in a fit state to answer questions.
