For the first issue of Eating in Eating Out in the new Pattaya People Weekly Lifestyle magazine we chose one of Pattaya’s most famous resorts the Dusit Thani Pattaya and one of their excellent restaurants; in this instance the delightful The Bay Italian Restaurant. Throughout the week, ala carte dishes are beautifully presented. The Bay Restaurant is renowned for its legendary Saturday Night Buffet which is held outdoors with a variety of tempting food stations positioned the full length of the grounds outside the restaurant.
But, for those who do not know, every Wednesday evening Executive Chef Claudio Mendini creates a bright approach to Italian dining by providing an exquisite Italian grand buffet with a fantastic range of delicious Italian dishes from appetizers through to desserts. No wonder The Bay has established itself as one of the premier dining experiences in Pattaya, being listed in Thailand Tatler Guidebook twice for being one of Thailand’s best restaurants. Who can blame them when this culinary establishment provides top quality food to complement the spectacular view overlooking Pattaya Bay? Chef Claudio brings with him a wonderful selection of traditional recipes from his native Trento, north of Venice and Verona plus classic dishes from all over Italy. His past experience includes serving as Executive Sous Chef in different hotels in Austria, Morocco and Costa Rica in Central America before making his way to Asia. Claudio had a short culinary stint in Myanmar (Burma) before joining Dusit Thani Laguna in Phuket, where he served as Italian Executive Sous Chef.
For the classic Wednesday Italian Buffet Chef Claudio has prepared an amazing array of Italian dishes all laid out buffet style for guests to enjoy – including an excellent pasta station where the expert chef creates a perfect pasta dish to your taste and satisfaction. We tried the unusual but tasty black (squid ink) Tagliatelli with Seafood which was created in front of us within minutes and cooked to perfection!
The Bay offers a diversity of dining experiences. Dine inside in air-conditioned comfort, or sit around the long curved bar while enjoying a cocktail as one opts to dine al fresco at the pool area.
The menu consists of a variety of selected Italian dishes, including mouthwatering Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Pasta including delicious Penne with Porchini Wild Mushrooms in White Wine and Cream Sauce and Cherry Tomatoes and homemade Ravioli with Ricotta Cheese and Shitake Mushrooms and Rocket Filling. There are also Risotto dishes and an excellent choice of Pizzas. There are also the Main Course Meats such as tenderloin of Angus Beef, Veal Saltimbocco Romana, plus a wonderful chicken dish called Petto di Pollo; very tender Chicken Breast with a Button Mushroom and Rosemary Stuffing. Lovers of Fish won’t be disappointed as there is a first class Salmon Steak recipe and a wide selection of Seafood dishes; all embracing both classic and unique recipes created by Chef Claudio. Leave room for the exquisite desserts including homemade Italian Ice Cream and an amazing assortment of quality Italian cheeses. Delicious! Highly recommended!
