Like its famous classic novel namesake, recently opened Le Montecristo Restaurant unveils a wealth of hidden treasures, in this case, delicious dishes that will delight the taste buds of serious connoisseurs.   During the short period, Le Montecristo has quickly gathered regular customers who come to enjoy the classic French and rustic Basque cuisines. This elegant restaurant, located near TukCom, is set in striking Paris art deco brasserie style, with comfortable seating, surrounded by brass and wooden fittings and glittering glass chandeliers to delight the eye.  Being a new restaurant, the chef is constantly reviewing the menu, and seems to have hit the right balance with the latest repertoire of Entrees followed by Fish and Seafood and Meat Courses.  Besides the 390 baht Set Menu there are a number of Specialty dishes to choose from. Entrees start at 120 baht for Mixed Salad to 350 baht for Smoked Salmon on Toast.   Specialty House Soup is Fish Soup with Basquaise Rouille (mayonnaise, olive oil, garlic and chili) at 240 baht.  Fish and Seafood courses begin at 240 baht for Moules a’la Espagnole (Mussels Spanish style) to 390 baht for Papillote Montecristo (John Dory fillet in White Wine and Cream).  There are plentiful Meat recipes to choose from, such as 260 baht for Pork Fillet Mignon with Mustard Sauce to 380 baht for Grilled Duck Breast with Peaches and Spices.

And so to the tasting!  For starters we tried Quiche Basquaise, (220 baht), a gutsy Custard and Chorizo Tart in a rich Pastry case.  This was followed by a very tasty Warm Salad of Scallops and Shrimps (250 baht) and fresh Green and White Asparagus in Shallot Vinegar Sauce (240 baht).  We then sampled two of the house specialties: Fresh Ravioli with a Mushroom filling in a piquant tasting Sauce (300 baht), and wonderful tasting Paella with Seafood (320 baht).  Perfectly cooked Rice mixed with a selection of Seafood, enough for two persons!  Leave room for the tempting Desserts such as Poire Belle Helene, chilled poached Pear on Ice Cream with Hot Chocolate Sauce (180 baht).

Quality house wines by the glass at 110 baht or litre at 620 baht.  We recommend the excellent tasting Rose at 150 baht a glass and first class house specialty Sangria, very refreshing at 110 baht a glass or 600 baht a litre.
