Due to the many complaints about illegal commercial signage placed haphazardly above premises on the streets of Pattaya, officials at City Hall decided to crackdown on Monday morning and target a number of streets to find out who is disregarding the law. Complaints came from various departments, especially the Fire Brigade, about the abundance of private commercial signs placed too low outside premises that causes a major obstruction for vehicles such as fire engines and transport trucks to get through. A team from the Safety and Security Department went out with a crane to two notorious hotspots, Soi Honey Inn and Diana Inn and began investigating the height of signs plastered above various premises. Despite previous warnings, those signs that were beneath the legal height of 5 meters from the road surface were dismantled and taken down. A caution was given to the culprit businesses that their ignorance and negligence in not complying with the law could endanger life and property in an emergency situation and result in court action against them.
