World of Sport

This week we kicked off with a visit to a very unique sport themed restaurant on Naklua Road, aptly called World of Sport, and as the name implies the venue is dedicated to sport - especially the ‘beautiful’ game of football.

This bright spacious 2 floor restaurant is 50 yards up from the Dolphin Roundabout and is run by friendly Brits, Glenda Sponder and Scott Conway - who by the way - also have another World of Sport restaurant in Soi Khao Talo.

World of Sport is very down to earth and unpretentious, with TVs and large projection screens scattered throughout, playing big screen sporting action 24 hours a day.  The walls are interestingly covered with framed photographs and posters of famous football stars and teams, past and present; together with signed football memorabilia such as football shirts and models of international football players.

The extensive menu offers a great range of international dishes, literally covering all the major cuisines around the world – especially good old fashioned British grub with favourites such as Shepherds Pie (195 baht) and grand Roast Dinners at 250 baht.  There is a wide variety of Starters, Snacks, and Pizzas from around 100 baht and All Day Breakfasts from 130 baht, plus a great selection of home baked Pies with Chips at 225 baht.  There is a wealth of Main courses to choose from whether Mexican, Indian, American or European, plus a good assortment of Steaks and Grills from 225 baht.

There is also a very extensive authentic Thai menu.

For starters we tried excellent whole deep fried Button Mushrooms in breadcrumbs (120 baht) followed by Firecracker Chicken Tenders (130 baht) – succulent strips of crumbed Chicken Breast served with dips.  Then it was on to the main course – and to a few favourites here, Chicken Fajitas (250 baht) – a hands on experience of making up one’s very own Fajita wraps with a mix of good tasting ingredients – to give an overall great taste bud explosion in the mouth!   Then it was to a popular British dish – Fish and Chips (295 baht) – a good sized imported Cod fillet in crispy batter, and served with home fried Chips and Mushy Peas.   Ending the session with a first rate grilled tender and juicy Sirloin Steak served with a really nice Pepper Sauce, (350 baht).  Do leave room for one of the tempting Desserts – such as Rhubarb Crumble and Apple Pie, but especially so try the Meringue, Raspberries and Ice-Cream delight - Raspberry Pavlova (125 baht) – extremely yummy!

So, if you love pub grub and have a passion for sport then you will certainly love this championship venue. Open 24 hours a day, every day.  Tel: 038 416 670 or 089 249 6138.

Please telephone restaurants prior to visit
