For lovers of first class Buffet cuisine the good news is that starting the beginning of October the Montien Hotel begins its famous themed buffets at both La Mer with its Mediterranean Buffet Dinner on Wednesday, and Verandah (Coffee Shop) with its equally excellent BBQ and Seafood Buffet Dinner on Friday.
We repaid them a visit this week to try out what was on offer at Verandah.
Verandah is one of three first class restaurants at the Montien Hotel, classically laid out, overlooking the Paradise swimming pool and tropical gardens.
Every Friday from 6pm a fabulous range of dishes are presented to tantalize everyone’s taste buds, providing an exceptional choice of fresh Fish, Seafood and tender cuts of sizzling Meat, plus a range of international dishes, Sushi and Sashimi, Salads and mouthwatering Desserts.
Food stations are spread around the front section of the restaurant with hot and cold international dishes and Thai delights, each with cooks available to prepare to order your choice of items, especially at the Carvery section with Roast Leg of Lamb and Beef Strip Loin to be served with accompanying Vegetables and Sauces.
One area to head for is the enticing Dessert Station with a wonderful arrangement of sugary delights, including Fried Ice-Cream!
To begin, indulge in the wonderful assortment of hot and cold appetizers. Dishes are changed each week and tonight they included Seafood Terrine, Slipper Lobsters, River Prawns, excellent plump Oysters, Green Lip Mussels and Parma Ham with Cantaloupe Melon.
Enjoy raw and marinated Salads with 10 different Dressings and Condiments and the nearby Japanese Station with fresh Sushi and Sashimi delights.
In the central area is a Hot Food Station with delicious international recipes to choose from. Be tempted by a bowl of first class Mixed Seafood and Coconut Milk Soup or creamy Beetroot Soup with Croutons, then try one or all the offerings such as Grilled Duck Breast with Orange Sauce, Pan Fried Red Snapper, Italian Sausages, and Beef Stroganoff.
Still hungry! Then move to the Cook to Order sections and try BBQ grilled Snapper, Rock Lobster, Blue Crab and Squid or just go for a wee plate of Pork Chops, Beef and Chicken Burgers with different Sauces. The menu goes on and on! Whatever you choose, leave room for the Desserts! A range of mouthwatering Pastries, Pies, Tarts, Cakes, Mousse, Chocolate Banana Spring Rolls, and cooked to order Deep Fried Ice-Cream with all manner of Fruit Sauces and additions like Cashew Nuts, Coconut and Dried Fruits!
The rule is to take short breaks before setting off to the food stations. No need to worry about items being devoured before you get to them, as dishes are constantly replenished by the impeccable service staff making sure that water glasses are filled and plates are removed immediately one leaves the table to go for your next helping. All in all this is truly a sumptuous feast.
And so, what is the price for this lavish spread – an extremely fair 795 baht per person and children 450 baht (plus tax). So, pamper yourself next Friday and experience Verandah – well worth a visit time and time again! Located Montien Hotel, Second Road. Telephone: 038-428-155 or 038 361 340 ext 1620.
