City hall meets to discuss clean up of Walking Street
City Hall met Wednesday to discuss the trash on Walking Street, and no, they weren’t making snide comments about bar patrons—they’re trying to find a way to improve rubbish collection throughout the entertainment district. City Deputy Sutam Petgaid chaired a meeting between city officials and the Meuang Sa-ard Company, the private contractor hired to collect the massive amount of rubbish produced by tourists and businesses each day. Both are eager to improve the clean-up methods currently employed.
The company’s garbage trucks usually make 3 runs a day in the area, which is not enough. The company proposed adding one more round for a total of 4 pick-ups a day, confident that 4 rounds would be adequate to keep the Walking Street area clean. City officials were not so sure, however, and further meetings have been scheduled to work on the trash trouble.
