Sawang Boriboon Foundation sends flood relief to Songkhla
The Sawang Boriboon Foundation chose the auspicious time of 12 midnight to send a caravan loaded with flood relief items to the Had Yai district in Songkhla, in southern Thailand. Over 80% of Had Yai is presently under water, so Mr. Prasit Tongtidjarern, foundation president, along with 30 rescue team members, are donating, in addition to much-needed supplies, 5 flat-bottom boats for transportation through the flooded areas.
Over 30,000 residences have been hard hit, affecting over 100,000 people in the municipality. Nearly 5,000 people are homeless because the water is covering their houses to the rooftops; the flowing current is powerful and too dangerous for people to even leave the areas to get help, or for boats to arrive. Rescuers have determined that the most critical issue right now is evacuating the population and getting them to a safe location. Sturdy boats that can resist the strong current are badly needed.
The Sawang Boriboon Foundation has collected donations of basic food, water, clothes and medical supplies that will follow the boats being sent to Songkhla. More donations are gladly accepted at the donation centers set up around town or at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Naklua.
