Sunday evening Mayor Ittipol Khunplume officially opened the new “Walking Street of Naklua,” with a celebration titled “Walk and Dine in Naklua Land” or in Thai dern gin tin Naklua. It is the latest promotional effort by City Hall in cooperation with the regional director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mr. Niti Kongkroot, and the Chief Advisor to the Mayor Mr. Niran Wattana-sartsatorn.
City officials invite everyone, residents and tourists, to come out and visit the old market area of Naklua, which has been restored to create an old-time festival feel, taking visitors back to how the area looked one hundred years ago when it was still just a sleepy fishing village. The market covers an area of over one kilometer, and encompasses the communities of Lan Poe, Post office and Wat Chong Lom.
There are entertainers and performers provided for the visitors, exhibitions, and plenty of food and beverages for sale. Dozens of vendors are selling souvenirs and traditional handicrafts, especially from famous stores and shops in Naklua, all to introduce the beauty of Naklua’s culture to visitors and tourists. The market festival started on November 6th and will continue until February 20th, 2011, every Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 10 pm.
