Bangladeshis Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Victory over Pakistan
Victory Day is a national holiday in Bangladesh, celebrated on December 16. On this day in 1971, the Pakistani Army surrendered to the Indo-Bangladeshi High Command in Dhaka, ending the 9 month-long Bangladesh Liberation War.
East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, fought a Nine month long Bloody War against West Pakistan, in which 3 million people were killed. In the end, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Freedom Fighters of Bangladesh, alongside allied Indian Forces.
Thus, East Pakistan became the independent country “Bangladesh”. All Bangladeshis living in Pattaya met and joined hands to celebrate this Historic Moment, convened by the Association of Thai Bangladeshis in Pattaya.
