This week’s choice we ventured to Pattayaland to experience an innovative up-to-the-minute concept in dining recently opened in the flourishing heart of Pattaya’s entertainment and nightlife. It is called Street Life and is the brainchild of restaurateur Richard Burk, who has transformed Amor restaurant into a four- in-one chic Art Gallery, Wine Bar, Deli and Restaurant. With a distinctive makeover, Street Life introduces a modern art gallery with a dazzling display of signed original prints by celebrated international contemporary artists, combined with a first class take away delicatessen offering a cornucopia of mouth-watering international food products, plus a stylish wine bar and restaurant to enjoy some of the delectable dishes made famous by the very creative Richard and his team. After exploring the work of artists such as Noe Katz, Kaoru Saito and Sarah Brayer, sit down, relax and sip a glass or two of wine ( from 120 baht a glass) and then enjoy some of the great sandwiches made fresh to order with super fillings such as chopped Chicken Liver, rare Roast Beef, or Smoked Turkey on a choice of bread at 150 baht; or amazingly authentic New York Corned Beef or Pastrami on Rye at 170 baht for 100 grams/290 baht for 200 grams; all served with half a Dill Pickle and Coleslaw. Then there are the ‘super special sandwiches’ – including Traditional Ruben (290 baht) made with Corned Beef or Pastrami with Sauerkraut and Swiss Cheese, or bite into a super Street Life made Bagel with Lox (Norwegian Smoked Salmon) and Cream Cheese (185 baht). Extra hungry - then try the BBQ Ribs (175 baht) or Philly Steak - sliced Tenderloin and melted English Cheddar served on a large soft bun. The menu offers some of Richard’s favourite recipes which featured at Amor – Richard’s homemade Duck Terrine (195 baht), Iced Cucumber Soup (95 baht) or range of Pasta with sauces from 250 baht. Main course Meat, Fish and Thai dishes are aplenty from 250 baht for Wiener Schnitzel, 450 baht for Norwegian Salmon, to 850 baht for prime (certified) Black Angus Fillet Steak – all with fresh Vegetables and choice of Potatoes.
The tempting take away deli menu offers wonderful products at extremely fair prices – from Corned Beef (180 baht), Gorgonzola Dolce (100 baht) homemade Tuna Salad, or Richard’s marinated Greek Black Kalamata Olives at 95 baht - all per 100 grams.
We settled down to a plate of Richard’s delicious homemade Duck Terrine – served with first class Mango Chutney, followed by Gambas –Shrimps in tasty Tomato, Basil and Green Chili Sauce. (195 baht). Then a very popular dish - BBQ Pork Baby Back Ribs (375 baht) – and one can see the reason why, the tender juicy meat simply fell off the bone! Next, something from the Deli – an extremely good tasting Bagel with Lox/Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese and a Traditional Ruben (290 baht) – an outstanding Rye bread sandwich filled with Corned Beef, Sauerkraut and Melted Swiss Cheese – a must try! Do leave room for a slice of Richard’s infamous Lime and Cream Cheese Pie, Fudge Cake or Carrot Cake. (175 baht) Scrumptious!
As one New Yorker customer said without hesitation – “Street Life has the best Corned Beef and Pastrami I have ever eaten outside of the Big Apple.”
