On Friday morning (14th), at Pattaya City Hall, the Executive Board Committee of U-tapao Airport hosted its 1st Meeting of 2011. The Chairman of the Executive Committee, a Senior Expert of Royal Thai Navy Nav. Gen. Narong Taidwisarn conducted the meeting, which saw many committee members attending to discuss prior matters. These topics included the 4 projects for 2011 1) Building a Petrol Filling System, 2) Purchasing a Fire Truck for the Airport, 3) Purchasing a Vacuum Truck to clear the runways of dust, and 4) Moving a noisy Transformer and Generator installed near the passenger lobby. The other pending matter discussed commercial airline access. Over 100 airlines have agreed to use U-tapao Airport in their routes, and the passengers coming to Pattaya in 2011 are expected to at least 19,760 persons.
In The Second Quarter of 2011, the airport is expected to earn more than 12,800,000 Baht, 38% higher than last year. The estimate for all 4 Quarters is more than 26,767,311 Baht, all due to the better conditions of the country, and also the heavy air traffic at Suwannapoom (Suvannabhumi) Airport. It costs more time, petrol and money for the planes to land at Suvannabhumi Airport, therefore, the U-tapao Airport is a good alternative for these airlines.
