Do you visualize a great dining experience under the stars with a fantastic view over Pattaya Bay – then look no further than the swanky new Sunset Lounge on the roof top of the award winning Dusit D2 Baraquda Pattaya hotel on Second Road. The Sunset Lounge is the latest concept in al fresco fine dining from the creative minds of General Manager Michael Ganster and Executive Chef Chettha Waiseubkaow. The stylish décor with tropical plants, relaxed dining area and subtle lighting provide a truly intimate atmosphere to enjoy fine dining with Pattaya Bay as a wonderful romantic background setting. Open from 5pm the stage is set to sit back and take pleasure in sipping some of the hotel’s award winning cocktails from star barman TJ, and experience the amazing sunsets as you choose from the delightful international menu created by Chef Chettha. Thus far, the menu is exactly the same as the hotel’s signature poolside restaurant downstairs – S.E.A., offering a dazzling display of Vietnamese, South East Asian and Western cuisine. With Vietnamese dishes ranging from 190 baht for Vietnamese Lotus Salad to 290 baht for Brochettes of Cured Beef in King Henry Leaves (Spinach type). The best of South East Asian cuisine offers dishes from 160 baht for Chicken in Coconut Milk Soup to 350 baht for a full sized D2 Appetizer Platter to sample a bit of everything. Or be tempted by the Malaysian Rock Lobster Tail (380 baht) with Shrimp, Ginger and Curry Leaves. All Asian main dishes are served with Jasmine Rice. There is a fine selection of Pizzas from 220 baht for Pizza Bocconcini with Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes and Basil to 350 baht for the S.E.A Pizza house specialty with Tiger Prawns, Squid, Basil and home cured Salmon. Pasta dishes include Penne Pesto (220 baht) and Seafood Spaghetti (280 baht). Great tasting Sandwiches and Burgers are available such as Smoked Salmon Focaccia Sandwich with Wasabi Mayonnaise (250 baht) or try the house Fish Burger (250 baht) with grilled Asparagus and Aubergine. All served with Fries and Organic Salad. Western favourites include starters such as Caesar Salad (210 baht) or for an extra special dish with Rock Lobster (350 baht). Main course meals include traditional Fish and Chips (250 baht) and Beef Rib Eye Steak (650 baht). First off we tried a bottle of one of the Wines of the Month promotions – Branciforti Nero D’Avola Sicilian White 2008 at 1,300 baht a bottle (160 baht a glass). We then sampled some of the house signature dishes such as the D2 Chiang Mai Egg Noodle Curry (220 baht), a beautifully fragrant broth containing Seafood and Chicken covered with deep fried crispy Egg Noodles. This was followed by a luscious Scallop dish with organic green Salad, and a Beef and Chicken Satay (250 baht) with a delicious spicy Peanut dip. Then it was on to one of the Pizzas with lashings of Mozzarella Cheese and Pepperoni. For a main course we chose the Grilled Australian (grain fed) Lamb Chops (1100 baht) – two perfectly (pink) cooked melt in the mouth cutlets served with braised Porcini Mushrooms and Vine Tomatoes. We ended the meal with one of the sweet indulgences – the Oreo Ricotta Cheesecake (140 baht). Scrumptious! The Dusit D2 Baraquda is located next to the Avenue Shopping Mall on Second Road, Pattaya.
