On Friday morning at Jomtien Beach, Mayor Ittipon Khunpluem and the people of Jomtien and Pattaya officially opened the 6th Artificial Reef Construction Project of 2011. This new home for fish and other marine animals will help preserve the natural conditions underwater for marine life to survive, as much of their habitats have been destroyed by human’s actions.
The Thai Gulf is the home of millions of marine creatures, but the numbers have been dwindling rapidly. 1,300 concrete cylinders are being placed underwater about 3 kilometers from the shore, at a depth 12 meters. As long as marine life survives, so too can humans survive, as the ocean is the mother of all life on earth. On a more mundane note, the tourism industry of Pattaya also depends on maintaining a clean and healthy seaside.
