On Friday afternoon at Ocean Marina Yacht Club, the President of Top Of The Gulf Regatta 2011 Mr. William Gasson, the Board Director of Ocean Marina Yacht Club Mr. Keerati Assagoon and the General Manager of Land Rover Thailand, Ltd, Mr. Jim Goldsmith hosted a press conference to publicize the Biggest Sailing Competition of Asia, the 7th Top Of The Gulf Regatta 2011. The sailboat races started that day and will continue until May 3rd, 2011.
Pattaya is known as the best location in Asia for sailing, as the weather and physical conditions are perfect for sailing, as well as all the tourist attractions the city has to offer. Pattaya is starting to be a World Class Sailing destination, like Greece and the Bahamas.
The Top Of The Gulf Regatta was established in 2005, and in 2011, the competition comprises 250 sailboats, over 500 contestants, and 12 types of sailboats. The challengers are seeking to claim 1st Prizes in 3 Categories, the Optimist Cup, Coronation Cup and the Top of Regatta Cup. The sailboats are divided into 12 groups which are IRC Racing 1, IRC Racing 2, IRC Racing 3, Cruising Sport Boat, Pla Tu Boat (Plat tu is the name of the most common fish eaten with spicy source in Thailand shaped like mackerel), Ocean Multihall, Hoby Tiger, Hoby 16, Monohall Dinky, Laser, Optimist.
