A meeting took place at Pattaya City Hall on Wednesday afternoon between Mayor Ittipol Khunplume and relevant authorities involved in an AIDS Monitoring Programme. The meeting, however, focused on recent complaints made to one of the authorities attending. A number of ladyboys complained to The Sister Centre, claiming that they were constantly being mistreated by police when they go out strolling along the beach front minding their own business. One claimed to have been fined 100 baht without being given a legal receipt for carrying a condom. Deputy Suppression Inspector Police Lt. Nonteeraroet, representing Pattaya Police stated that the facts did not reflect the true story and that the reason for fining the ladyboy was not for carrying a condom but wandering around public areas for prostitution activities. No conclusions were made in this meeting and such delicate matters will be discussed further when more information is gathered.
