Banglamung and Pattaya Commemorate King Chulalongkorn
On Sunday morning at Banglamung’s District Station, the government authorities, students, teachers and residents of Thailand held a Grand Ceremony to commemorate King Chulalongkorn. Many brought beautiful garlands to place in front of the statues of the King Rama 5.
In Pattaya, the king was honored with Garlands placed by his statue by government representatives, starting with the Pattaya Police Station officials. Superintendent Pol. Col. Nantawut Suwanlaong, Mayor Ittipon Khunpleum, and Pattaya Councilmen.
Rama V is considered one of the greatest kings of Siam. His reign was characterized by the modernization of Siam, immense government and social reforms, and territorial concessions to the British Empire and French Indochina. As Siam was threatened by Western expansionism, Chulalongkorn, through his policies and acts, managed to save Siam from being colonized. All his reforms were dedicated to Siam’s insurance of survival in the midst of Western colonialism.
