This occasion it was a trip to North Pattaya Road to visit one of the city’s oldest and admired pub style restaurants and entertainment venues.  It is none other than the celebrated Moon River Pub located in front of the equally delightful Thai Garden Resort - which, by the way, offers an excellent good value buffet every evening from 6pm around the Lagoon pool.   The welcoming Moon River Pub offers a fantastic range of imported beers, wines (160 baht a glass or from 800 baht a bottle of South African wine) and cocktails such as the house specialty Zombie at 220 baht. Not forgetting their famous 3 liter Pipes filled to the brim with your favourite Heineken or Erdinger lager at 380 baht or 320 baht for 3 liters of Chang.  Not only that but they also present great tasting Western pub style grub, which includes a selection of Mexican and Thai cuisine.   The pub is housed in a large wooden beamed barn structure filled with curios and artifacts to delight the eye.  Play a free game of snooker in the game section. 
The main reason, however, why people flock to Moon River Pub, is the nightly show from 9pm, when you can sit back to relax and enjoy an evening of excellent live music courtesy of regulars The Power Jam Band from the Philippines. 

Appetizers include Shrimp Cocktail, Smoked Salmon and Nachos platter all at 170 baht.   They also sell two nifty Dutch style delicacies, Frikandellen sausages and meat filled Kroket, both at 150 baht a portion. Main course dishes range from 200 baht for Spaghetti Bolognaise or Pork Sausages and Fries, 300 baht for Pork Escalope, 350 baht for a quality Beef Steak and 390 baht for Salmon Steak with all the trimmings.  Thai food from 130 baht, 300 baht for poached Snapper with Tamarind Sauce, and the popular Tom Yam Khung (Spicy Lemongrass Prawn Soup) at 140 baht! 

We began our meal with one of the house favourites, the Tower Platter (380 baht), consisting of liberal portions of Nachos, Sausages, Spring Rolls, Shrimps, Pork and Chicken Kebabs, which was accompanied by a fresh mixed salad (200 baht).  It was then on to another house specialty, the Thai Garden Skewer (350 baht), with tasty BBQ grilled cuts of Pork fillet and Chicken breast, Fries and Salad.  For the fish course we chose a prime cut of grilled Salmon Steak (390 baht); moist and full of flavour, served with fresh Vegetables.  To end the meal it had to be one of the classic desserts of all time, a splendid Banana Split (120 baht)!  It was then time to sit back and enjoy the Power Jam Band!

Moon River Pub is located at 179/168 M5, North Pattaya Road. Open every day from 6pm until late.  Please note that entrance to Moon River is free but people under the age of 20 are not allowed entry due to Thai law.  There’s excellent free parking facility available in front of the pub.
