Obtaining Great Merit by Cleaning Local Graveyards

On Sunday at the Sawang Prateep Foundation in Sriracha, the 9th Graveyard Clearance Ceremony started with a Grand Opening conducted by -

March through May is the usual time for Graveyard Cleaning, and Chinese-Thai Buddhists from all over the country always perform this service by digging up dead bodies to let them be cremated. A proper funeral will send their souls to a better place. This ceremony started nearly 100 years ago and it has been considered a way to earn great merit, for oneself and the deceased. For the Sawang Preteep Sriracha, the observance started on March 11 and will continue until May 13th.
