Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visited the Sattahip Navy base on Monday. She came to watch a war games exercise, which is part of the Royal Thai Navy’s annual training program. She and Admiral Surasak, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, flew by helicopter onto Thailand’s only aircraft carrier, the HTMS Chakri Narabeurt to watch the exercise. This annual training helps to develop the skills of the Navy Sailors and Officers, to ensure they are combat ready should the need arise.
The objective was reported by the Commander of Vessels Division Admiral Kanat Tongpoon and the training began with the Demonstrations of the weapons on board, the weapon used to destroy submarines, Pirate Control Strategy, Bell 212 Helicopter Flying and Sea Delivery Techniques.
The vessels used in the training were Lakree-nareubet Royal Vessel, Pattani Royal Vessel, Narathiwat Royal Vessel, Kraburi Royal Vessel, Saiburi Royal Vessel and Similan Royal Vessel.
The training started on March 17th and will end on April 27th and is divided into 2 sections. The first part is Command and Management, working on being able to think, plan and solve problems on duty, and the second part is the actual Exercise Sessions. These exercises adhere to the National Protection Plans that use the Thai Gulf for training. These war games will teach the naval officers to take control of the sea, secure water transport routes, protect the coastline, and prevent any terrorist attacks.
