On Monday evening at Bang-pra’s Public Activity Ground, a press conference was held by the Chairman of the Bangpra Administration Mr. Wittaya Khunpleum and Guests of Honor, to publicize the upcoming Bangpra Songkran Festival. This Songkran celebration will be held from April 17-19 along Bangpra Beach, and the Highlight of the event will be Bangpra’s one and only “Guardian Demon Parade”.
In the old days, approx 75 years ago, Bangpra was struck with contagious diseases and many people died. Then a villager had a dream to cure this bad fortune by constructing a devil’s image, and parading it through the village. The public gathered at a field to worship the demon, and beg the pardon of the demon to cure and dispense of these evils, and amazingly, they survived.
Now a statue of the Guardian Demon is paraded around the town, ending at Bangpra Beach, where it is floated into the open sea to take away all bad luck.
There will also be Stage recitals, light & sound performances and concerts, as well as booths with local products for sale and many interesting activities.
