The Glass House

This time out was a journey along Sukhumvit Road to visit a unique beach side restaurant in Na-Jomtien.  It is called The Glass House, which offers a wonderful array of fresh Seafood dishes plus ever popular Thai recipes, all to be eaten al fresco in the spacious open plan restaurant facing the sea.  The centre piece in this charming and extensive 250 seat restaurant area is of course the striking and dominant Glass House itself, which includes the kitchen area plus an in-house bakery.  The restaurant is well staffed and guests are invited to dine at tables spread out in the delightful garden area under spotlight lit palm trees and tropical plants with a constant natural breeze cooling the area.  The menu is essentially Thai cuisine, with a small amount of Western style dishes.  The menu offers a super selection of Appetizers, such as Crispy Crab or Shrimp Cakes, Calamari, Chicken Wings and fresh Oysters and Clams.   Fish and Seafood comes fresh from the fish tanks surrounding the dining area with the likes of Sea Bass, Grouper, Mussels, Prawns and Blue Crab all cooked to order either steamed or grilled.   There are numerous Rice and Noodle dishes to choose from, plus an assortment of excellent Green, Red and Yellow Curries with a variety of Fish, Seafood and Meats to enjoy.   The Western menu contains Spaghetti Bolognese, Hamburgers, Soups such as Clam Chowder and a wide selection of freshly made Sandwiches with Bread made daily on site in the bakery.

We sampled a first class bowl of Tom Yam Khung, the classic Spicy Prawn and Lemongrass Soup, containing four huge Prawns and an assortment of Seafood and Mushrooms in a super delicious Lemongrass tasting mild spicy Soup.  The next dish to appear was a marinated Salmon Salad.  Chunks of fresh bite-size Salmon fillet in an exceptionally tasty semi-mild spicy sauce.  This was soon followed by another salad; in this instance a very unique and zesty Pomelo (Grapefruit) and Prawn mixture.   Then fresh from the fish tank we were rewarded with a deep fried whole Sea Bass dish, with super flaky white tender flesh coated in a deliciously crispy Beer Batter served with Papaya Salad and a platter containing two enormous freshwater Shrimps with extremely tasty firm flesh dipped in a honey based sauce.  From the Western menu we chose the rack of Pork Ribs, which were tender and tasted good, especially with the BBQ Sauce coating.  For dessert we were treated to light crispy Fried Banana Fritters with homemade Ice Cream, and then the piece de resistance, a fabulous Chocolate Bombe, being a super crispy Souffle base from which oozed a Fondant, hot soft and rich velvety Belgian Chocolate Sauce.

You may have noticed that no prices are mentioned in this article, the reason being that the Thai owner insisted that prices are not quoted in newspapers or websites. Therefore, we bowed to the request and suggest you go along and experience The Glass House for oneself; you won’t be disappointed!

The Glass House is open every day from 11am until midnight. Telephone: 038 255 922.
