On Thursday at the Pong Municipality, the Chairman of the Pong Culture Council, Mr. Pet Bun-iam, opened a meeting to discuss the upcoming Songkran Celebration in Pong with officials. Every year, this celebration, called “Wan Lai”, is held at one of 3 temples, rotating from Sawang-arom Temple to Pong Nop-tong-dee Temple and then to Tuan-tong Temple.
This year, the meeting agreed to follow the same rotation, and “Wan Lai” will be held on April 17th at Sawang-arom Temple at 2 pm. On The next day, April 18th Songran will be celebrated at Pong’s Nop-tong-dee Temple at 2 pm, and then move to Tuan-tong Temple at 6 pm.
There will be many Buddha images at the temples for Buddhists to sprinkle water on, and to pay respect. Performances, games, competition, lucky draws, etc will be provided for everyone’s enjoyment, after the traditional ceremonies are completed, such as respect paying to the elders and obtaining merit.
