Traditional Rice Harvest Festival in Naklua

To bring the Songkran festival to an end, the residents of Naklua once again took to the streets on Friday 20th April, this time instead of water splashing, they took part in a Kong Kao (rice harvest) festival, when they offered food and sweets in a centuries’ old tradition to pray for prosperity in the coming year. Then during the afternoon, everyone got involved in a series of games, such as slingshot competition and hoop Takraw.  Plus a post climbing competition, where a greased up 4 meter tall pole was setup for adults and a 2 meter one for kids, to climb and try grab a 1,000 baht note attached to the top.  Another highlight was a sea boxing event where children balanced precariously on a horizontal pole trying to knock each other into the drink below.
