On Friday, at Nongyai Temple, Khun Sonthaya Khunploem, the former Minister of Tourism and Sports, presided over the traditional Thai event, Kong-khao, which was held for the villagers in Nongyai. Khun Rei-wat Phol-look-in, the Deputy Chief Executive of Chonburi Provincial Administration, gave a speech. The observance was attended by officials from Pattaya City Hall, members of the City Council and local people.
The Kongkhao ceremony is held every year with the aim of promoting Thai traditions for the tourists to see and enjoy, and of course, to maintain the beautiful Thai traditions. The ceremony was held after the Wanlai, or Water Splashing, in Pattaya .
There were many activities accompanying the ritual, such as slingshot, hoop and takraw competitions, puzzles, sea boxing, martial arts, and climbing oily posts. Then at 6pm there was worship, sacrifice, and a procession of fairies, angels and devils, as well as live music.
