On Friday, Khun Kam-pon Tan-sat-ja, the director of Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens, received a report from a mahout Pra-mual Ram-don, that a female elephant would be giving birth soon.
Later in the day, the General Manager Khun Pat-ta-nun Khan-ti-sook-phan, took the media to observe and take photos of the delivery. One hour later, a female elephant baby was born, and the new youngster is healthy, and of pleasant character.
The mahout told the reporters that mother of the newborn, Pang Taeng-mo, aged 14 years old, became pregnant in February 2010, and works as a taxi elephant, taking tourists to view the tropical gardens. She is clever, usually in a good mood and never cruel. Khun Kam-pon stated that now there are 46 elephants at the garden, and the name of the new baby elephant will be decided later.
