On Saturday, the Commissioner of Royal Thai Police Bureau Region 2 Pol. Lt. Gen. Dr. Panya Mamen, and Chonburi’s Police Commander, Pol. Maj. Gen. Jamnong Ratanagoon, held a press conference at the Saensuk Police Station to publicize the success in tracking down some car thieves who disguised themselves as a car care business. The police had traced this gang for a while, and the 2 offenders were arrested during a sting operation while delivering a stolen truck to an undercover policeman at the Tesco Lotus in Bang-na. The evidence was a 4 door Toyota Vigo which had been reported as lost or stolen recently. Indeed, the truck had been swiped from KC Car Care while being washed, and the car care business owner and his team seemed to be aware of the loss of the truck.
The 2 offenders were Mr. Jamrern Buntoe, aged 56 and Mr. Sommai Haad-sai-chai-ta-lay, aged 52. The truck had been modified and put up for sale on the internet for 140,000 Baht. The police immediately suspected this gang, as there were some victims that lost their vehicles at the same car care service station a few years ago; therefore the officers set up a sting operation.
The 2 offenders were forced to lead the police to their warehouse in Ban Beung and almost 100 car accessories were found plus the registration books for all the stolen vehicles. However, Mr. Sommai claimed that all the blue books were for the second-hand vehicles he bought legally, and would be used with new vehicles they have received. This is also against the law, but he believed it was legal. The Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Dr. Panya was stunned by Mr. Sommai’s lack of understanding, so he explained the law to these offenders before sending them for legal proceedings.
