On Saturday, the Nongkam Police Investigation Inspectors Pol. Lt. Col. Posawat Si-ri-porn-nop-pa-khun and Pol. Lt. Col. Anek But-in were called to investigate a shooting on Route 7, inbound to Pattaya, in the Nongkam area. At the scene, the maroon Toyota pickup of Surasak’s Mayor Akom Pan-cha-lerm-chai plus his driver and 2 guards, was found hiding in a bushy area about 2 km away from the place of the shooting, and miraculously, everyone was safe.
There were over 10 AK-47 bullet holes found on the pickup. The front left tire was shot and flat. Mayor Akom stated that he was traveling back from a ceremony for entering the Monkhood, and it seemed his enemy knew his travel route, as a group of men waited until his pickup passed by them, and started shooting at the truck with an AK-47. The AK-47 is an assault rifle, developed in the USSR by Mikhail Kalashnikov, so this weapon is also known as a Kalashnikov, or an "AK". The Mayor gave thanks to his steady minded driver, who managed to bring everyone safely away from shooting.
The first assumption for the motivation for this attack is politics, as the Mayor’s right hand man was also killed recently, and he could be the next target on the list, to eliminate the strong competitors in the upcoming election.
