SUAMHUA STEAKS BY LINDA

This week was another journey to the Darkside of East Pattaya and over the railway line to visit a very popular restaurant on Soi Khao Talo.   It is uniquely called Suamhua Steaks by Linda.  Linda being the Thai proprietor!   The name Suamhua, by the way, remains a mystery!  Not even Linda knows its origin.     All one can say is that this very unpretentious clean and friendly restaurant, which has only been open 3 months, offers a selection of good quality steaks, at extremely low prices. For instance, a decent sized Chicken Steak is a mere 69 Baht, Pork Steak at 89 baht, Fish Steak at 89 baht and Beef Steak at 129 baht.  All served with Salad.   No wonder this place is a favourite haunt for many expats, especially Dutch folk that live in the area.   It is located next door to the popular well known Nat Bar on Soi Khao Talo, not far from Tops supermarket and the yellow Ayhudya Bank.   The menu is quite small, but it caters to everyone’s needs, with, of course, the Steaks being the signature dishes.   Breakfasts come in at around 119 baht for traditional food items such as Eggs, Bacon, Frankfurter, Ham and Toast, including Juice and either Tea or Coffee.   Snacks include Prawn Spring Rolls and Chicken Nuggets or Wings all at 89 baht, and a decent Cheeseburger at 109 baht. There are Salads such as a classic Caesar variety also at 89 baht, and Sandwiches are available and are all freshly made to order at 99 baht for Tuna or a traditional Club Sandwich.  Other main course dishes include Fish and Chips at 159 baht (being the most costly dish on the menu) and Spaghetti Bolognese at 119 baht.   Thai cuisine is aplenty here with classic dishes such as Pad Thai at 70 baht and Tom Yam Khung (Spicy Prawn and Lemongrass Soup) at 100 baht.  Other dishes include Shrimp Cakes and a range of Red, Green and Penang Curries all at 100 baht.

So, what did we try?  Well, first off was a very tasty Thai style Macaroni dish, Thai style meaning it was slightly spicy and added some bite to the Pasta and rich Tomato Sauce.  Then we were treated to a few of the Steaks, fine tender tasting cuts of Beef, Pork and Breast of Chicken, which came with a bowl of tasty Fries and customary Mayonnaise Dip (69 baht).   This was followed by two classic Thai dishes. An extremely tasty Green Curry with Chicken (80 baht) and an excellently prepared Pad Thai with Prawns (70 baht).  All made with good quality ingredients, and with those low prices one cannot go wrong!

There is a good assortment of bottled Beers such as Singh (50 baht), Chang at 55 baht and Heineken fairly priced at 60 baht.  Decent house Wine at 70 baht a glass.

Open every day from 11am until midnight. Telephone: 087 484 5659.
