Tequila Sunrise Bar & Restaurant

This occasion it was a visit to the far reaches of Jomtien, to Soi Chaiyapruek 1 in fact, where there are a fast growing number of bars and restaurants appearing, some of which are very popular with locals.  One such is the Tequila Sunrise Bar and Restaurant which is located near to the junction with Jomtien Beach Road.    This large welcoming bar has been in operation for nearly four years, and recently since Christmas 2011, they started serving a range of homemade food at the 6 tables in the front open plan terrace area.  The food offerings are mainly Thai dishes and a number of Italian favourites, all courtesy of master chef Aye and his friendly staff.  Using good fresh ingredients, he conjures up a delicious assortment of dishes, especially ever popular authentic Thai cuisine, all at very reasonable prices.  For instance, Somtam (Papaya Salad) is only 50 baht, Spring Rolls are a mere 60 baht a portion; with Thai favourite Pad Thai also 60 baht and equally popular Tom Yam Khung (Spicy Prawn and Lemongrass Soup) at 120 baht.  Indeed, the most expensive food item on the menu is Fried Sea Bass with Sweet Chili Sauce at 300 baht a serving.

The Italian dishes are prepared with freshly homemade pasta, which goes to make Lasagna (150 baht), Cannelloni (180 baht) and Ravioli, also at 180 baht.  There is also the ubiquitous Spaghetti Bolognese (120 baht) and Macaroni Cheese at 90 baht a portion.   So what did we try?  Well, first off we had to try some of the Italian dishes, so we opted for the Lasagna, Cannelloni and Ravioli.  They are all freshly prepared each day so that these pasta offerings are extremely tasty accompanied with a fine meat sauce. Then it was on to the Thai cuisine and first to arrive was a first class Pad Thai dish, with plenty of Prawns and Chicken pieces, mixed with Noodles and Bean Shoots.  An equally tasty dish was the Thai favourite Tom Yam Khung – Spicy Prawn Soup – served spicy medium hot and filled with Prawns and Mushrooms.  Finally, a mild tasting Chicken Yellow Curry came to the table that proved a big hit with the team.

They do a good selection of Cocktails, such as the house specialty Tequila Sunrise at a mere 80 baht. Beer costs 70 baht for bottle of Heineken, 60 baht for Chang and Tiger.

There is plenty of entertainment to enjoy at Tequila Sunrise, such as large screen TVs, free full size pool table, free internet, and of course the company of the friendly staff.  Besides all this they offer traditional Thai massage and aromatherapy. Indeed, if you present their colour advert which is on page 3 of this issue, you get 10% discount!

Also, every Friday evening from 7pm, there is a live Thai band playing golden oldies and all the latest hits throughout the evening.   Tequila Sunrise Bar and Restaurant is at 131/97 Soi Chaiyapruek 1, open from 11am until 1am every day.  Telephone: 089 097 0689.
