Doner King

There seems to be quite a lot of Doner Kebab restaurants opening up in Pattaya recently.  Some are good and some forgettable.   Well, if you want to try a really good one offering good quality food then make your way to the Beach end of Central Road and virtually next door to Tops Supermarket you will find Doner King.    Opened two months ago this authentic Turkish style restaurant and take away has built up a good reputation in the area, with regular customers either eating in or taking food away.  The decor presented here is simple, bright and clean with an inside and terrace eating area.  In fact, a typical Doner Kebab outlet, (with its original branch in Berlin), serving a limited menu of really good tasty Doner Kebabs and a range of specialty Turkish Pizzas at very reasonable prices.   One can get a really good Doner Kebab filled with a choice of both Beef or Chicken slices and Salad for a mere 89 baht.  A plate of Doner together with Salad and Sauce will cost you a mere 199 baht.   A Mixed Grill with Salad and Turkish Bread at 249 baht!  In fact, the Salads here are extremely fresh and good tasting, especially one called Coban Salad (89 baht), a colourful dish made with cubed Tomatoes, Red Cabbage, Green Lettuce, Onion and Cucumber with a lovely tangy Vinaigrette dressing.    One specialty is the popular North West Turkish Iskender Kebab (299 baht), a platter of Beef tenderloin strips covered in a slightly spicy Tomato Sauce and served with Yoghurt.   The two styles (rolled Calzone style or flat) of Turkish Pizzas are definitely worth a try, especially the Lahmacun style (149 baht) – meaning meat with dough – and that is what you get, a colourful round crispy thin Pizza base topped with Spiced Minced Beef and Herbs that smelled and looked as good as it tasted.   In fact the Lahmacun Pizza is what we tried first and is quite delicious bursting with a rainbow of different flavours when topped with a drizzle of a very tasty homemade Garlic Mayonnaise.    We then sampled another favourite dish here; Shish Kebab made with tender cubes of really lean Beef and served with Fries and Salad (149 baht).  Then it was straight onto another popular dish, Adana Stick Kebab (149 baht for one stick, 249 baht for two). This was a really tasty serving of slightly spiced Minced Beef Kebabs with Fries and Salad.

There is a small range of side orders such as Boiled Rice and really good tasting Turkish Bread, both at 19 baht.  Cold drinks are also available, such as Coke at 29 baht, Soda at 19 baht and Beer such as Singh at 69 baht and Heineken at 79 baht a bottle.   So for a tasty treat of really good Turkish style snacks then get along to Doner King and enjoy.

Location of Doner King is 137/7 Central Road (just down from Tops Supermarket).  Open every day from 10am until 11pm. Telephone: 080 826 1667 or 080 821 1121.
