On Saturday, the Pattaya Police led by Deputy Suppressing Inspector Pol. Lt. Pallop Ring-rod manned a checkpoint at the top soi Land Office, off Soi South Pattaya 17. Many motorcycle riders and suspicious persons were searched, questioned and tested for drug use. Mr. Attapoen Joonlapon, aged 24 from Chachoengsao province, was arrested with a .38 revolver and 12 bullets hidden in his bag.
Mr. Attapoen stated that he had just finished his retreat as a monk 2 days previous, so decided to go out and enjoy the night life in Pattaya. He pleaded guilty to possessing the gun, but said it was only for self-defense. Nevertheless, he was taken for legal proceedings as the gun was not licensed.
