On Tuesday, the Sattahip Police were called to investigate a Theft at the Saeng Tong Gold Shop, located at the Sattahip Fresh Market where the thief had already been apprehended by the locals.
Police Superintendent Pol. Col. Chonapat Nawaluck and the Investigating and Suppressing Teams went to the scene and found that Miss Ammarat Sammana, aged 23 from Banglamung, had been detained with a fake designer gold necklace, and a real gold chain necklace weighing 1 baht and worth 22,800 baht.
The owner Mrs. Sasitorn Pian-pat-ta-na-wit stated that Miss Ammarat entered the gold shop and asked to look at many different necklaces. When Mrs. Sasitorn looked away, Miss Ammarat swapped a fake necklace she had brought with the real one from the shop, before excusing herself to go to a ATM for money. But when Miss Ammarat walked out, Mrs. Sasitorn realized what just happened, so, she shouted for help, and Miss Ammarat was immediately seized by the locals.
Miss Ammarat confessed to the police and the owner of the gold shop that she trying to get some money to buy her stepfather a bullet proof vest, as he had called her recently to say that an enemy was plotting to shoot him in Ratchaburi province. Miss Ammarat felt she must help him, because he raised her from childhood. However, she had no money, and could not work due to her pregnancy of 4 months. The police located a previous record of Miss Ammarat attempting the same switch at another gold shop, where she also did not succeed with the theft, so Miss Ammarat was taken for further investigations and legal proceedings.
