Pattaya police received a call from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team in the early hours of Tuesday that an Austrian tourist had died in his rented room in Soi Arunothai in Central Pattaya.  At the scene the body of 58 year old Mr. Josef Abtenau was found lying on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood.  According to his 36 year old Thai girlfriend Miss Chalee, who had been living with the man for about a year, he was on the phone to his mother when she heard a loud noise coming from inside the bathroom.  She went to investigate and found her partner on the floor with a wound to his forehead.  He collapsed and died soon after.  The body was taken away for autopsy and the Austrian Embassy has been notified of the incident.
