During the official visit this week of Myanmar President Thien Sien to Thailand, he met with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House, Bangkok, to discuss closer economic ties between the two countries. During the talk, it was agreed to set up a joint committee to research linking both Laem Chabang port with the Dawei deep sea port still under construction on the Andaman Sea in Southern Myanmar. Therefore, on Monday, the President and his delegation paid a visit to Sriracha to meet with the Ministers of Transport and Industry and representatives from the Eastern Seaboard Investment Department to discuss plans for the joint venture. Later that afternoon, the VIP team ended their visit by a taking a tour around Laem Chanbang port. Both Thailand and Myanmar will celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2013, and apart from economic ties, they plan to continue cooperating in the suppression of the illegal drugs trade.
