On Monday, the Pattaya Police Investigating Inspector Pol. Lt. Col. Weerawut Meelai were called to investigate the death of a foreigner. The man was found on the grounds of the L. K. Empress Hotel on Pattaya Beach Road, Soi 12, and the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team also came to assist.
At the back of the hotel building, the body of Mr. Johannes Adrianus Antonius Maria Poirters, aged 63 from the Netherlands, was found on the ground. His head had split open, and there were multiple fractures to his arms and legs. He was dressed in a dark blue pair of shorts, and lying in a pool of blood.
The police investigated the 8th floor hotel room rented by Mr. Johannes. The officers found no indication of foul play, but they did discover 2 empty bottles of whisky and an ashtray at the back of the balcony, directly above where his body was found on the ground.
The hotel staff stated that Mr. Johannes had rented this room for a long time, and that his Thai girlfriend, aged about 40, had not visited him for 3-4 days. The police also found a bank book showing only 590 baht left in the account, with the last withdrawal occurring on June 19 when 20,000 baht was taken out.
The CCTV footage showed that Mr. Johannes entered his room at 8:12 am and left his room 1 minute later. He went down the elevator to the ground floor, and then inexplicably examined the same backyard area where he later fell down to. Then he went back to his room, and nothing was seen until he fell from the back balcony at 9:04 pm. The body was sent for an autopsy, and further investigations will be made when the results of autopsy are known.
