The scene was amazing, as already this exciting new restaurant located in the Chateau Dale Plaza on Thappraya Road, Jomtien, has established itself within two weeks with a number of regular customers; especially from the local neighbourhood; with a growing number of people coming from further afield, and one can see the reason why.�

�As the saying goes � the proof of the pudding is in the eating.� The News Cafe is a high quality and modern designed restaurant which offers a wide range of both top quality international and Thai cuisine at prices to rival some of the best established restaurants around Pattaya.

The News Cafe, which seats 100 customers inside and out in its spacious covered terrace area (with another room for a further 40 guests soon to open), is smartly decorated with comfortable and modern furniture, coolly surrounded by cream and beige coloured brick and stone walls that are covered with a colourful selection of modern artwork � all adding to the casual and relaxed atmosphere at this friendly venue run by two established Swedish restaurateurs, Per and Jens. One does not have to dress up to visit the News Cafe as Per mentioned to us that he wishes a very casual and laid back ambiance, so just come along, relax and enjoy the fine food on offer.� The News Cafe menu certainly contains a very good selection of mainly European dishes, with about 15% being delicious Scandinavian recipes, such as Planked Steaks and salmon steaks (325 baht) and Swedish Meatballs for 160 baht. A Planked dish is cooked and served with Duchesse Potato on a wooden platter which adds a delicious slightly smoked flavour to the food.�� There is of course a great assortment of Appetizers such as Salmon Cocktail (170 baht), Soups, Steaks, Grills (they do a whopping Mixed Grill of steak, pork chop, sausages, bacon and trimmings for 320 baht) and Kebabs (a house specialty being skewers of meat pieces or seafood on skewers served at the table on a special rack), together with pasta dishes such as Spaghetti Carbonara (185 baht), Salads are freshly made to order, such as a Mixed Salad (75 baht)� and Caesar Salad with chicken, bacon, and parmesan croutons (95 baht).� There are great tasting Burgers from 185 baht with special burgers like the News Burger (210 baht) containing minced steak patty together with bacon/tomato/jalapeno pepper/cheese/aioli and a portion of fries.� There is also a very good selection of fish dishes such as an unusual recipe of Gorgonzola Baked Salmon Steak (345 baht), seafood and thirteen Thai recipes (from 95 baht) on offer.� Each day the News Cafe offers a great deal with a daily Dish of the Day on offer for 220 baht and a daily Set Menu for 495 baht � this day they had a Scandinavian dish appetizer called Toast Skagen (Shrimp, Dill and Mayonnaise on toasted bread), Beef Steak with Gorgonzola Sauce and finished off with a Panacotta (cooked cream custard) Italian dessert.��� We started our meal off with a very tasty Shrimp Salad Zorba (195 baht).� This was a mixture of whole Shrimps, Tomato, Onion, Feta Cheese cubes and Lime coated in Sunflower Oil dressing and served in a crisp Lettuce leaf wrap.� We also tried the Toast Skagen (145 baht) shrimp appetizer - then came two meat dishes:� Steak Louise (295 baht), which was medium rare cooked sirloin steak in a flavoursome Dijon Mustard and Red Wine sauce accompanied with an excellent Potato Gratin side dish.� Then came two Kebabs � one being cubes of� tender Beef Steak (350 baht) and the other a wonderful mix of Seafood, including Scallops, Salmon, Cod, Sole wrapped in Bacon and Shrimp (390 baht).� Both skewered and served on a special rack with an Apple Aioli Sauce and Jacket Potato with flavoured butter.� We then sampled an excellent fish dish.� A poached Cod Fillet served with an unusual but delicious Red Wine and Blue Cheese Sauce w
