Strict Checkpoints for Teenagers The Banglamung Police decided to set up strict checkpoints during the school holidays - mainly aiming at youngsters on motorbikes that gather in gangs possibly leading to crime.
Police Captain Theerasak Seesaeng, Deputy Head of Banglamung Traffic Police led the team of traffic police officers out to set a checkpoint opposite the police station on Sukhumvit Road on 23rd March at 9 am to inspect teenagers on motorbikes. At the moment it is a big school holiday in Thailand; many teenagers have nothing to do and gather up as gangs, which sometimes can lead to crime around Pattaya especially stealing motorbikes. The police are trying to suppress this by clearly inspecting the license plates, driver’s license. Also for safety all bike riders and passengers should be wearing helmets. This checkpoint will remain until the 20th of April.
Banglamung Traffic Police must also start planning how they will reduce traffic problems during the upcoming Chinese Cheng Meng Ceremony. Many people will travel into Pattaya during the Cheng Meng Ceremony. Cheng Meng is an important Chinese ceremony whereby family members gather and go to their relative’s cemetery to pray and present offerings. This year the Cheng Meng ceremony is on 5th April.
