The Cafe Kronborg Monthly Mug

Friday the 20th April 2007: Pattaya Country Club (Medal-Monthly Mug).  It was really strange driving to The Cafe Kronborg on this morning. As the observant will have noticed it was a Friday,

because of 'Pattaya Songkran' on the day before and the roads were weirdly empty. Also, I had not been to the Kronborg for some time as it was decided there was too much going on and we had not played for a couple of weeks. This allowed Dave to nip home, some 8,500 miles or so and return without missing too much.
Back to normal we gathered, with Tim doing his normal booking in bit and as time came to leave we noticed the buses had not arrived. It seems that while booked, they hadn't realised it was a competition day. However, the drivers were quickly out of bed and believe it or not they left practically on time.
Arriving at Pattaya Country Club we were soon booked in and it was noticeable the Course was fairly quiet. On the first tee we were able to get away a little early and we soon noticed it was quite windy and the Course was hard and dry. All in all, the Course was not too bad, the greens were pretty good, but the bunkers were a real problem. Although raked they looked flattish but a little like turned earth and it was impossible to get a decent lie as the ball lay well down. Still, I suppose that bunkers are supposed to be punishing. It was also noticed some of the Tee Boxes were in odd positions, very interesting!
All in all the round went fairly fast, the only problem for our group was that as we were teeing off on one hole the group behind started to shout loudly.  Still seeing who they were we wondered what was up? I found out as I sat in the Restaurant.
So round over, showered, clean and thirsty, we ventured into the Restaurant with some trepidation as we have not been impressed with it of late.  Blow me down, we were immediately dealt with and a Buffet Area was set aside for a set meal, which we nearly all tried and it was fine. Nice to be back to what it used to be!
While we sat there we were joined by the noisy group behind and found what the whooping had been about. On the par 3 seventh hole, Bob Benda had had a hole in one, and you could not see it until you got to the pin. Well done Bob! It is his first hole in one after many years of playing the game.
Back at the Cafe Kronborg it was time to declare the winners and it was surprising to see only one person beat his handicap, so the day must have been tough.
In the A Flight, 0 to 19, the winner was Derek Brook with a net 72 ahead of Dave Richardson, after flying back the day before, with a net 73 and in third place was Bob Benda with a net 74.
In the B Flight the winner was Mark Brenton with Neil Allison in second and Basi Singh in third. No, I have not forgotten the scores, but they did enough to win. Enough said!
So to the Winner of the Mug, and a very surprised winner was Wayne Koch with a net 71; but as said he did enough to win.  Well done Wayne! Then Bob Benda rang the bell, and we were all happy.  T.T.F.N.
