Hugh Millar and Symphony Restaurant

For Fine European and Thai Cuisine
This week’s Bartercard Member, a favourite amongst local expats, Symphony is an intimate European specialty restaurant where the ambiance is casual elegance, big on quality, consistency and service.
Symphony is located close to the heart of Pattaya's sparkling night life, you will find us on 2nd Road between Soi 7 and Soi 8 opposite the Isuzu dealership. The owner is Hugh Millar, a Scot from Motherwell, who has lived and worked in Pattaya for 18 years. Hugh left school at 17 and went to college to study industrial chemistry, a skill he used as an Industrial Chemist before tiring of his initial career choice. As he was already working part time in the restaurant and hotel business, at the age of 20 joined a hotel chain as a management trainee. By his late 20s, Hugh had moved managerially to the Berni Inn group before going into business on his own by opening a restaurant at the Loch Ness exhibition centre. Looking round for something challenging and different, Hugh eventually accepted an offer to manage on behalf of the owners, the affairs of a boutique hotel and associated businesses in south Pattaya which opened in 1989. When an opportunity to buy the restaurant now known as Symphony surfaced, Hugh decided to take the plunge and took the reins on June 1st 2005 . Hugh says that “People want to eat well at a price they can afford, but they also expect to have a good time and be served by a discerning staff in an intimate environment. We have a substantial international menu which includes great steaks, some imported but also some excellent local beef combined with an extensive selection of Thai Food.” To compliment the food Hugh also has a varied wine list offering wines from both the old world and new, again at very fair prices, plus a large selection of cocktails and after dinner drinks.
