It is a well known fact that the best place for eating Indian food is in the myriads of Indian Restaurants in the UK. It is also another fact that Pattaya is quickly creeping up with an ever growing number of excellent Indian restaurants
scattered around town. One such is the recently opened Tandoori House located in Soi 12 off Beach Road. The Tandoori House is run by Mr. Jabangir Hossain and his lovely Thai wife, Sunan. They have been delighting their customers with an excellent range of delicious authentic Indian, Thai and European dishes since opening their doors in July. The spacious room which seats 50 guests is plain and simple with yellow painted walls and wooden surround. There are no exotic decorations normally associated with classical Indian restaurants; the emphasis here is on the quality of the food, which is extremely high, as evidenced by the number of regular customers that constantly frequent the restaurant and by ourselves after sampling some of the dishes from the menu. Indeed, the menu is quite extensive with a wide range of Thai dishes; in fact 118 Thai recipes in total. They have a very good selection of traditional European dishes such as Roast Lamb with Mint Sauce and Vegetables (250 baht) or Roast Chicken with Gravy and Vegetables at 220 baht. They serve a number of international Breakfasts from a mere 40 baht to 150 baht for a delicious Lamb and Mint Sauce Sandwich. But, of course, the main emphasis at the Tandoori House is the Indian food with its use of top quality ingredients, fragrant spices and herbs used to enhance flavours and create unique and subtle flavours and aromas for recipes from all the regions of India. Besides mouthwatering appetizers such as Samosas, spicy Pappadams and Onion Bhaji (80 baht) they serve an excellent range of traditional recipes such as Meat, Fish and Vegetarian Tandoor oven style or Karhai style dishes: With Tikkas, Masalas, Kormas, Biryanis and extremely hot Vindaloo Curries ranging from 165 baht to 280 baht. First to arrive at the table were two Thai dishes. Steamed Sea Bass with Chilli and Lime Sauce, which was a hit with our Thai team. Followed by Amok Talay (140 baht); this is a wonderful tasting fragrant Seafood, Fish and Coconut dish cooked in a Banana Leaf. From the European menu we sampled very good ‘traditional’ Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas and a very tasty Roast Chicken and Chips, both at 150 baht. Then it came time for the star attractions to arrive – the Indian dishes. First was a North Indian drink; a refreshing glass of Lassi (yoghurt) to whet the appetite. Together with good sized Garlic Naan Bread (60 baht) were three Meat dishes: Mutton Tikka Tawa Masala (270 baht); tender pieces of Lamb in a special thick Curry Sauce. Chicken Tikka Masala (200 baht), being delicious morsels of breast of Chicken in a delicious fragrant spicy sauce. And Chicken Tandoori (300 baht), being two tender and tasty plump breasts of Chicken cooked in the Tandoor oven. We then sampled two Vegetarian dishes. A very good Curried Paneer (130 baht) which is an Indian Cheese (similar to Ricotta) that blends well with a variety of spices and sauces. Finally, and not least came Dahl Soup (140 baht); being a subtle tasting Lentil soup with Cream. All these dishes were served with excellent aromatic Pilau Rice. Perfect! There you have it, for a good meal, especially if you crave good old fashioned Indian food, then go to The Tandoori House; you won’t be disappointed. Prices quoted include all Taxes.
