Its Over!  (13/12/2008 07:33:38)
Author: Charles Curty.
Eh Americans, Bob and el all! Boooo...booooo! Did you know that the U.S. elections are over by now? Did you know that you are quite boring? This is a site about Thailand...not the USA! Why don’t you meet, have a few beers, punch each other eventually, and then have a few more beers. Or maybe discuss your American’s differences of opinions in a U.S. site or blog. What else could you do? What else could you talk about? No doubt your female partners left one a long time ago! I would not be surprised that even your male friends are bored and also ran away...far away...from you! I am surprised the editor still publishes your repetitive B/S because it is nothing than that. Charles Curty.
Highway Danger  (13/12/2008 07:30:23)
Author: KOTO Keeper
This is a caution to all motorcycle riders on Sukhumvit Highway. I'm sure some of you are aware of the nice repaving of areas on Sukhumvit Highway, Jomtien, Pattaya area.  If you are riding a Motorcycle or a Bicycle be very careful if you are going to make a right turn. When they repaved the Highway they left a raised lip between the center divider and where you are riding to make a right turn, leaving a narrow space between. Unless you’re an experienced rider and even then you can have an accident. I'm an experienced rider and I almost went down, I have also seen a few people have accidents in that motorcycle lane. What we learn from one might help us for another. Be safe and wear your helmet, Health and Happiness to All. KOTO Keeper of the Ocean, One Act of random kindness at a Time.
The Times They Are Achanging  (05/12/2008 09:53:45)
Author: Rory UK
Editor, PP’s letter’s page has been lively lately. Thanks to the on-line letters format I was able to brush up on the cause of Bob’s whining (Nov 29th). Whilst airing what are clearly his deep prejudices, he calls anyone with a different view an ‘ist’ of some sort. In perusing the issues he tediously raised for the umpteenth time, I found nothing that suggests Jack Tighe “went after” John McCain’s war record, as Bob said. Mr Tighe merely said it takes more than being a prisoner of war to make a hero. Most people would agree. I found nothing which suggests that Mr Tighe made sexist remarks, as Bob said. Any sane person would condemn as a nutcase anyone who thinks that war can be God’s will. Bob himself attributed such words to Sarah Palin. Any sane person would also condemn the endemic paedophilia by Catholic priests, condemnation that Bob attacked. That alone makes him suspect. Finally, Mr Tighe made no “vicious attack” on KOTO, as Bob said in attempt to drag Mr Rasmus into the mess that Bob made for himself. Mr Tighe merely said that moaning about litter was petty if the illegal carpet-bombing of Cambodia was condoned. I doubt KOTO meant that, but his “misinformed on many things” was non-specific and could have applied. I personally found not one thing Bob’s detractors were wrong on. According to his thinking, criticising Osama Bin Laden would make one racist and condemning a mother who neglected her child would make one sexist. Bob has exposed himself as a fractious character whose stock-in-trade is trouble-making exaggeration. He is typical of the brash and stupid mentality that ruined America’s reputation on the world stage. Thankfully, the president-elect provides a new role model of articulate diplomacy that will hopefully be followed by many whites as well as ethnic groups. Also hopefully, the day of men like Bob, who can’t see their pernicious contrariness, is done. A message of a great American may finally apply and it goes out to people like Bob: “The old road is rapidly aging. So get out of the new one if you can’t lend a hand, because the times they are a-changing” (Bob Dylan).
GET A LIFE  (05/12/2008 09:52:54)
Author: Bill.
To Bob! We have touched bases before the landslide victory for President Barack Obama, and I see your still at it, so I have a word of advice to you. GET A LIFE! You are a bitter old man and just want to bring everyone you can down to your level of unhappiness. Take a long rest and get plenty of sunshine and stop hitting that whiskey bottle.
Sociopath Waffle  (05/12/2008 09:52:09)
Author: Jack Tighe
Editor, The letters page is a great forum for airing views but it is inevitable it will be abused. One culprit is ‘Bob, Pattaya’ (he seems afraid to state his full name). His waffle has been stamped into the ground by various contributors and I have no intention of going over it again, but his nonsense came in the 29/11 issue. In his latest vain attempt to save face, he conveniently forgot his own electioneering when stating I decided to do it for a US presidential candidate (Obama). I in fact only said why I thought Sarah Palin was NOT a suitable VP candidate, but I take this opportunity to congratulate the U.S. public for finally electing a credible president. Bob’s bad wind having been wafted away by the public, myself and other writers, he resorted to turning an accurate comment I made into a “vicious attack”. This wicked act by me was pointing out that I had been supported by a number of letter-writers while Bob was: "joined by someone who moans about litter but approves of carpet bombing..." This regarded a single letter taking Bob’s side and which, while ignoring Bob’s distracting drivel, asserted that an opposing writer who reviled former-president Nixon was misinformed. Whatever good deeds this person does is irrelevant to the debated subject. It is undisputed fact that while Nixon prevaricated over how to exit the American War (as still called in Vietnam) in a way that would save national face (the same reason that keeps troops in Iraq), without the sanction of Congress he authorized carpet-bombing in Cambodia. To defend Nixon is to approve the slaughter of innocents that occurred. It was a crime against humanity and most denunciation of it by US politicians and Bob’s sort was thwarted by the censorship-by-patriotism fear that infects much of the U.S. and can be regularly seen put in play on Fox News. Another contributor pointed out that Bob did infer he thought sexual abuse of children was no worse than making a racist comment (even though none had been made). As a browse of your on-line letters section will confirm these items, will you, editor, please do Bob a favour by preventing him from airing his mental deficiency. A lesson that he and his ilk need to learn is that an error in judgement that led to atrocity is one thing; justifying it by suggesting it was a “mission from God”, as Bush declared as if he was Moses, or “a task from God” as Palin suggested it could be, is on a par with the Spanish Inquisition. The mindlessness that allows people to disregard atrocity is called ‘sociopathic’ and the God Squaddies are riddled with it. As to the accuracy of Bush being likened to Hitler, wait till movie-director Oliver Stone’s ‘W’ hits screens. Bob says I have no class and I won’t argue, especially if it means I don’t have my head stuck where Bob has his. .
The Vegan Crusader  (05/12/2008 09:50:53)
Author: Eric Bahrt.
Dear Editor: As someone who is known as the "Vegan Crusader" I'm often asked where people can go to find good vegetarian food. While people in Pattaya have many options here are a few of the places I recommend: Five Stars Vegetarian Restaurant near the intersection of South Pattaya Road and Third Road (on the same block as that big temple). Sizzler's salad bar at the Royal Garden Plaza; Subway at many locations (they have vegetarian sandwiches); Shahi Indian Restaurant on Beach Road off Soi 4 (I recommend their lunchtime buffets which are mostly vegetarian) and Rosayana Resort (Raw Food Cafe) at Badminton Court, Fairfex Hotel.(On the same street as the bus station but closer to 2nd road). Most Indian and Mid-Eastern restaurants serve good veggie dishes. My favorite one is Abu Saed on Soi l6 off 2nd Road across the street from the Marine Plaza Hotel. (What I like about Mid-Eastern restaurants is that they serve falafel sandwiches. A falafel sandwich is like sex: when it's good it's great and when it's lousy it's still pretty good!)  All the restaurants I recommend serve good veggie food and are generally in the l50 baht range, although Rosayana tends to be a little more expensive. In fact if you’re not satisfied with my recommendations I'll give you back all the money that I've been paid to write this letter. And that will make you about as wealthy as I am.
ABSTINENCE  (05/12/2008 09:49:22)
Author: Bob, Pattaya
Editor: In the November 15th issue of the Pattaya People, Eric Bahrt wrote "Bob praised Sarah Palin for promoting abstinence as being the only acceptable form of birth control for teenagers. Eric, try reading the letter more carefully when you quote it. First, I did not support any form of birth control, but did seek to clear up some stupid statements as to Palin's views on birth control. I stated "as for Palin's view on birth control, she has actively supported abstinence based sex education". (Source-Anchorage Daily News 8-6-06).  Eric, hardly what you quoted me as saying as to "only acceptable form of birth control" and no mention of teenagers. Maybe you are confused with the unsupported statement by Jack in where he said " Palin's abstinence-until-married policy didn't work for her daughter (unmarried pregnancy at 17)". Or the likewise unsupported statement by Tony where he says "there is nothing in history that shows preaching ' abstinence' works". Eric, that is where I think you are confused as to what I actually said. The program Palin supports as Governor of Alaska is abstinence based sex education that has a balanced emphasis on abstinence and safe sex including the use of condoms and other contraceptives. Whereas the Democrats do not want abstinence taught but rely on safe sex, use of condoms and use of other contraceptives as part of their sex education programs. Democrat sex education programs also include the teaching of masturbation to children ages five through eight, as used in the SEICUS program. Democrats also favor abortion as a means of birth control along with late term abortion and infanticide. I support a comprehensive sex education program such as abstinence based program, and I am not against abortions but am against late term abortions and infanticide as forms of birth control. Tony's statement on “nothing in history that shows preaching abstinence works”. Sorry Tony, another of your off the top of your head false statements. I found ten abstinence programs that have had success contrary to your historical statement and they are 1) Virginity Pledge Programs-success touted by AMA-USA. 2) Not Me Not Now-in NY Monroe County. 3) Operation Keepsake-blk and Hispanic students Cleveland-success in 2/3 rd of students. 4) Abstinence by choice-reduced sex activity by 40% in young teenagers. 5) Virginity Pledge Movement-75% success rate. 6) Teen Aid and Self Respect high risk students’ success 25%. 7) Family Accountability Comm. Teens Sexuality. 8) Postponing Sexual Activity-Atlanta-Blk students-60% success boys and 95% girls. 9) Project Taking Charge-evaluated in Delaware and Mississippi-50% success rate. 10) Teen Aid Family Life Ed Program-21 schools in 6 USA states-sexual activity cut by one fourth. See Tony, you statement is bogus. So Eric, Tony and Jack, Palin supports an Abstinence based sex education Program, and I have similar views. .
Mindless Attacks  (28/11/2008 07:02:51)
Author: Bob, Pattaya
In the Nov. 15 issue of the Pattaya People, Jack Tighe just keeps on with his mindless attacks on others. Months ago, Jack decided to electioneer in Thailand for the Democrat Presidential candidate in the USA.   Jack chose not to voice the reasons on why someone should vote for Obama, but followed the USA Left Wing example of attacking others as part of the campaign for Obama. Jack went after Senator McCain’s war record; putting a past President Nixon and the present sitting President Bush  in the same class as Hitler; joined the sexist attacks on VP candidate Palin  that were being made in the USA by the Left Wing; brought "God" into the  discussion by making up a story from a speech made by Palin  by using  3 words from that speech to form the basis for his distorted story; and joining  in on the attack of the Catholic Church. When I voiced my opinion in opposition  to the vicious attacks as not have any place in Thailand and were factually  untrue, I was then to attacked saying that I favored the sexual abuse of  children. Jack Tighe knows no bounds as to who to attack or what to say. Then in the Nov 15 letter of his he states "Bob is joined by someone who moans about litter but approves of carpet bombing and the slaughter of innocents". Jack was obviously making reference to a letter from "Koto" dated Nov 3 in which Koto innocently stated "Mahalo for setting it straight for Bill and Tony as it was quite obvious that they were misinformed on many things". Jack, Koto's letter was not even directed at you, yet you attack Koto saying he "approves of carpet bombing and the slaughter of innocents", with NO factual information to back up what you said. But then again, you have shown that history is not one of your strong points. Koto should be praised for his long standing efforts of cleaning up the beaches in Jomtien and other community service efforts on his part, not attacking him over an innocuous statement in a letter to the Pattaya People. Koto deserves the thanks of the entire community and not the vicious attack that you made against Koto. Jack, you have shown that you have no class what so ever. .
Help Please  (28/11/2008 07:01:33)
Author: Dr. Johannes Maas.
Sirs I am writing to seek your help in providing information to me. I live in Jomtien Beach for six months every year, and maintain a residence also in America. I arrived in my condo located a Pratamnak Soi 5 a few weeks ago. I brought with me my laptop computer, which is programmed for my WiFi use in America. I see that there are 2 free public WiFi networks in my area which carry a very strong signal. One is identified as Internet Oasis (Free), and the other is called Free Public WiFi. They are listed as computer-to-computer signals, and my computer expert back home has told me that I need their address to log on to their signal. I have tried in vain to find a computer professional to help me, but no one in the IT Center or the computer shops is able to help me. I am asking that you inquire with your knowledgeable staff who might be able to solve that problem. If no one on staff knows, please publish my request in Pattaya People. Surely someone can assist me. I enjoy your TV news on Sophon Cable. And the ads are very informative.
Impressions  (28/11/2008 07:00:22)

Editor, I having been in a relationship with a farang female for four years; Pattaya, my prior fun outlet, was put off-limits. A benefit of familiarity with the place is that when a split comes there is a ready-made diversion. Some things have changed in my absence, but still people write letters giving petty reasons why Pattaya is going down the tubes and they are abandoning the place. They never say where the traffic is not congested, crime is less or a man passed his best will be welcomed by a youngish lass. It all goes to show that even Pattaya can’t turn all men into a YAHOR (Young At Heart Old Rooster). That said something has changed in the UK. No-smoking laws have hit pubs and clubs, but most cities now have lap-dancing bars. When I went into one and was asked ‘fancy a dance?’ by a buxom young lady wearing very little (a dance costs £10), I replied that I was used to getting the service free with a drink. No chance of that back home though, and after a while I took up the offer. Wow! In a semi-private booth I got the sort of dance you dream of. Apparently, nudity is no longer taboo to British licensing authorities. I see that Pattaya now has [very soft] mags with girls from various go-go bars, each image hardly different to the next. Who buys them? More flesh is shown in UK daily newspapers and free travel brochures! The same two Aussies are still writing about nightlife and the bar scene and not a note of their tune has changed. There’s nothing wrong with go-go bars, but most are on the main drag. A guide is hardly needed and there is a lot more to enjoy than them. The Web means that such columns are Pattaya’s window to the world, and one has to ask if some give a very good impression. .
