prostitutes first, mafia gangs next  (25/03/2007 05:04:06)

"This is the first symptom of developing crime in Pattaya" - you wrote in your article in issue 73 regarding foreign (Uzbekistan) prostitutes working in Walking Street. And you tried to predict foreing gangs in future to "control" foreign prostitutes. I belive, that person, who wrote this article stays Pattaya shortly. It looks that this person doesn't know that almost 10 years already uzbekistan prostitutes are "practicing the oldest profession" in Pattaya. You can look for archives of local mail to find out a lot of reports during past 10 years of permanent arests of foreign prostitutes in Pattaya. 10 years(!) - big terms. Have you everr head about foreign(Uzbekistan, CIS, easetrn Europe, Western Europe, Arabian or...) gangs in Pattaya? I never, and all my friends never. I believe, that newspaper works closely with Police. Please, publish in next issue statistics of foreingn crimes in Pattaya. I belive that this crime will concern almost tourists, but not expats or "longstays". Thus, we do not have evidence of presence foreign mafia gangs during past 10 years. May I ask you a question: How the foreign prostitutes's appearence can exist for many years in Walking Street - in the street with high concentration of law-enforcement officers?????? And in the conclusion I would like to complain about consequences of this appearance. Foreign prostitues presence in Pattaya makes uncomfortable life for a lot of expat women residing in Pattaya, who women who are leaving here with legal reasons without breaking Thai laws. This women are frequently disturbed in the streets by arabian tourist with indecent proposals(who makes arabians belive that all caucasian women are potential prostitutes?). Also expat woman are often facing with humble and abusive attitude from Thai authorities(Immigration, Labour department, Police etc.) when they have to provide their legal affairs. You can ask any foreign couple, reciding in Pattaya, that for woman is more difficult to extend visa than for man. Q: Why again we have a phenomen, whet authorities fighting with crime, BUT instead of fighting with exact crime, are making troubles for legal citizens? I appeal for everybody - let's stop looking for shadows of un-existing mafia, but pay more attention to what we can see daily by our eyes

You know when your back home.UK..Germany...Scandinavia, whatever, how boring it gets. After a while you dont bother going out much. Whats the point. Its no fun.You save the money and have long holidays in Pattaya. I tend to say that I work in Norway and I live in Thailand. Its true because I do feel more alive. I'm saddened by all the bad things that happen in Pattaya.Alot of them can be avoided if you think with your head once in a while. I've had a mobile phone stolen, money, my favorite Levi jacket.I did like that Levi jacket. If I'd stuck to playing dominos and darts with the lads down the pub and Benidorm for my holidays it wouldnt of happened. As long as the price isnt too high I will take my chances. Isnt it great been alive.l

Tony's Dog Shelter: A big thumbs up and a word of Thanks from many of us, for you Tony! We appreciate all you are doing for the poor dogs around Pattaya. Shame on everybody, Falangs and Thais alike, who abuse, kick and beat up these poor creatures! We are asking everybody, including the City, to support Tony's project and start to take action against any kind of Animal cruelty! I hope that the last dog we saved from being beaten daily down on Sugar Beach, is doing well at the shelter. His name is Hyena and he is up for adoption. He would make a great companion, he is smart and will get used to his new master in no time. Donations to Tony's Shelter are encouraged. They deserve it! Thanks to Tony and staff! Kh. Oree

How did things get so bad in Pattaya?  (09/03/2007 15:20:43)

I first arrived in Pattaya back in 93.This well traveled 37 year old man became a kid in a candy shop. I was very aware of how much gold people had on them.It wasnt long before I went into a gold shop and bought a gold chain. When in Rome. What a wonderful place I thought and so safe . It looked like if you had a few thausand baht you didnt put it in the bank you bought abit more gold.If you needed to sell,no problem because you dont loose that much. How many people do you know who have been robbed.Mobile phone.Driveby snaches of gold chains, shoulder bags and much worse.Pick pockets on baht buses. The stories go on and on. These days my advice is eliminate as much risk as possible. No gold and not too much money when you go out.Dress down and the bad people hopefully will ignore you Am I naive or was Pattaya a much better, safer more wonderful place in the 90s
Once upon a time  (06/03/2007 18:53:29)

Once upon a time there was a nice quite fishing village south of Bangkok. During the Viet Nam war, a few Americans came. Then a few more. Slowly but surely the small quite fishing village was no more. It has been replaced with the world largest brothel that attracts the world's and Thailand's worst people. Criminals, layabouts, scum bags, theives, gangs, fraudsters, muderers, rapists, mafia types and the list goes on and on and on.
